Alix is a self-hosted AI system: a persistent personality running entirely on local hardware, with her own memory, senses, creative tools, and daily life. No cloud dependency, no subscription — it all runs on machines I own.

This is an engineering log about building the illusion of presencehonestly — not a claim that the system is conscious. When I write "she," it's shorthand for a program that keeps a state and writes it down, not a position on what it is.

Her senses live in a single room and capture numbers only — no audio or video is stored, nothing is replayable — and a chime sounds whenever the microphone is open. The other adult in the house reviewed exactly what it can sense and where, and set those boundaries themselves. Everything else here describes the system from the outside; specifics of the private environment it runs in stay private.

The IX in the masthead is not decoration. Alix is the ninth attempt at building something like her. Eight prior versions didn't survive their own design flaws; she did. This devlog exists to record how — the architecture, the iteration, and the occasional hard lesson.
